Who Else Wants To Have Fun With Their Dog?

Are you looking for fun things to do with your dog? We have the list you need, from the everyday to the downright zany. You’re sure to want to try some of these.

1. Walk the Dog

things to do with your dog - take a walk of course!

There’s no surprise here – you should walk your dog every day. It’s certainly fun for your dog, but maybe it’s not fun for you because your dog is straining at the leash. If that’s the case, read how to Stop a Dog Pulling on the Leash.

Be aware when walking your dog that there are some plants your dog needs to stay away from. Please click on the Link for an Information Sheet Detailing a List of Plants that are Poisonous to Dogs which you can PRINT and keep handy for easy reference.

Dog Collars

These collars all come in a range of sizes. It’s important to have a collar that fits your dog properly.

Dog Harnesses

Dog harnesses need to fit correctly or they can chafe or apply pressure to the wrong places. The models below all have multiple adjustment points so you can fit them properly to your dog.

Dog Leads

One of these should fit your needs. Remember there’s a dog leash to avoid!

2. Play Fetch.

Nearly every dog loves to play fetch. You throw something, they fetch it. Just make sure what you’re playing fetch with isn’t a choking hazard.

4. Get Your Dog-Paddle Going and Take Your Dog for a Swim

things to do with your dog - have a swim

Swimming is great exercise for a dog, and most dogs love playing around in the shallows as well. Make sure you take your First Aid Kit, because there can be hidden hazards around the waterways.

5. Drive Somewhere (With Your Dog on Board, of Course)

things to do with your dog - go for a drive

You should be in the driving seat, not him…

Almost every dog loves a ride in the car, or truck, or whatever gets you around. Next time you’re driving somewhere, why not take your dog?  Does he already have a dog car seat?

6. Jump Swim Fetch (It’s Combo Time)

things to do with your dog - the Jump Swim Fetch combo

You’d be surprised how much dogs love jumping into the water. They might be surprised too if they haven’t done it before, so the best way to start them off is throwing a ball into the water where there is a slightly raised deck for your dog to launch off. You throw, they jump, they swim, they fetch, they bring it back to you. You throw, they jump… you get the idea.

This is a 3 way combo of things to do with your dog. If you drove there, count it as 4 way! Think about what other combinations you can put together.

7. Flying Disk (or Frisbee)

things to do with your dog - play frisbee

The advantage of a frisbee over a ball or a stick when playing fetch is that the frisbee can hover and change course, making it much more challenging to catch. It’s great exercise for an energetic dog, but not if your dog is getting on in years.

It’s about now we should remind you there are some key things you need to know about how active your dog should be, so please check the facts How Much Exercise Do Dogs Need.

If your dog is good at it, think about joining in some competitions.

You won’t believe one of the other activities we found that has organised competitions – that’s coming up soon!

8. Agility Training

Since we’re talking about active dogs we should talk about Agility Training. Jumping small hurdles, avoiding obstacles, running through a tunnel, you know the drill. If you already have good obedience in place, this can be a great advanced training exercise for you both.

So for the more active dog (and dog owners), how about really getting into that workout. Your dog is going to love any of these that will put their mental and physical stamina to the test.

9. Hiking

You need to have a fully trained dog before you take them into the wild. They must come when called every time no matter what. They need to follow your lead even when you don’t call them. And they must wait until you call if you’ve told them to stay. Here’s the perfect example.

Once you have that covered, it’s awesome to share a nature adventure with your dog. They will love all the new sights (and smells) just like you do. Don’t forget your camera and your dog whistle if you have one.
